Event aims to boost tourism, promote environmental awareness, celebrate cultural heritage

District Administration Udhampur on Wednesday organised a two-day mega Flower Show at Jakhani Park, aimed at promoting tourism and environmental consciousness in the region.
The event was inaugurated by Divisional Commissioner Jammu Ramesh Kumar as the chief guest. He was accompanied by Deputy Commissioner Saloni Rai.
Addressing the gathering, the Divisional Commissioner congratulated the District Administration for successfully organizing the flower show. He emphasized that Jammu & Kashmir is renowned for its natural beauty and tourism continues to be a major contributor to the Union Territory’s economy. “Jakhani Park, with its serene landscape can serve as a prominent destination for travelers,” he said.
The Divisional Commissioner further appreciated setting up of awareness and exhibition cum sale stalls by the government departments, providing a platform to artisans to showcase their products and services. He expressed hope that the Flower Show becomes an annual feature, celebrating nature, culture and community involvement. He commended the presentation of a Nukkad Natak on drug abuse, terming it as a significant initiative to educate the youth about its adverse effects and guiding them towards a positive path.
Several government departments including Agriculture, Horticulture, Health, Animal Husbandry, Sheep Husbandry, Social Welfare, Handicrafts and others had established stalls to generate awareness about government schemes and services. The Divisional Commissioner along with the Deputy Commissioner, inspected these stalls, interacted with the officers and reviewed the implementation status of various welfare schemes. He lauded their efforts in disseminating useful information to the public and promoting citizen engagement in developmental initiatives.
Earlier, Deputy Commissioner extended a warm welcome to the Divisional Commissioner and briefed him about the objectives of the Flower Show. She stated that the event was organized with the aim of enhancing the tourism potential of Udhampur by integrating Jakhani Park into the broader tourism network, boosting recreational activities, showcasing the district’s natural beauty and encouraging environmental awareness through departmental exhibitions. She expressed hope that the event would witness increased public participation in future editions and become a recurring cultural affair.
A theme-based cultural bonanza was presented by the Information Department Udhampur, featuring captivating Dogri folk songs, dances and Nukkad Nataks by local artists and students. The performances were warmly received by the audience with rounds of applause reflecting the cultural vibrancy of the region.
The Divisional Commissioner also took a stroll through Jakhani Park to admire the blooming floral arrangements and interacted with students who participated in the painting competition. He appreciated their creativity and innovative expression showcased through their artworks. Later, the Divisional Commissioner distributed prizes among the winners of the painting competition on the occasion. The inaugural event witnessed enthusiastic participation from the public and was attended by key dignitaries including Additional District Development Commissioner, Rajinder Singh, Additional Deputy Commissioner, Prem Singh, Assistant Commissioner Revenue, Dr. Umesh Shan, Chief Planning Officer, Mohd Iqbal Zargar, DDC members, heads of various departments, civil society members and a large number of people.
