RHS successfully organised a Capacity Building Programme (CBP) on Disaster Management under the aegis of the Central Board of Secondary Education, bringing together educators and academic professionals for an insightful and engaging learning experience focused on disaster preparedness and safety awareness in schools. The programme witnessed enthusiastic participation from teachers and school representatives who actively engaged in discussions aimed at strengthening disaster management practices in educational institutions.
The event commenced with a warm welcome address by Ms Anita Bhatia, Principal of the school, who greeted the resource persons and participants and underlined the growing importance of disaster preparedness in today’s educational environment. She stressed that schools must remain vigilant and prepared to respond effectively during emergencies and natural disasters. Highlighting the significance of awareness and timely action, she said that educational institutions have a vital responsibility in ensuring the safety and well-being of students and staff members.
The programme featured comprehensive and interactive sessions conducted by distinguished resource persons Ms Manmeet Kour, Vice Principal of Army Public School Jammu Cantt, and Ms Avneet Budhraja, Vice Principal of Jammu Sanskriti School. Both speakers shared valuable knowledge on disaster preparedness, mitigation measures, emergency response systems and safety protocols that schools can adopt to minimise risks during unforeseen situations.
Through practical examples, real-life scenarios and engaging presentations, the resource persons explained how schools can develop effective disaster management plans and conduct regular awareness activities for students and staff. They also highlighted the importance of evacuation drills, communication systems and coordination among various stakeholders during emergencies.
Their sessions encouraged participants to think proactively and adopt preventive measures to create safer school environments. The participants appreciated the practical insights and interactive nature of the programme, which enabled them to better understand the role of educators during emergencies.
Teachers and school staff members exchanged ideas and discussed various strategies to enhance preparedness within their institutions. The programme also emphasised the importance of building resilience among students and encouraging them to remain calm and responsible during critical situations.
Addressing the gathering, Advocate Gambhir Dev Singh Charak, Managing Director, highlighted the significant role of teachers in promoting awareness, responsibility and preparedness among students. He said that educators play a key part in shaping a culture of safety and resilience in schools and communities. He further stressed that disaster management education should become an integral part of the learning process so that students are equipped with the necessary knowledge and confidence to respond effectively during emergencies.
The programme concluded on a positive note with active participation, collaborative discussions and encouraging feedback from attendees. Participants expressed gratitude to the organisers and resource persons for conducting such an informative and meaningful initiative. The event successfully reinforced the importance of disaster preparedness in schools and highlighted the collective responsibility of educators in ensuring a safe and secure learning environment for future generations.
