DC Srinagar reviews progress of Solarization of Government Buildings in the District

Deputy Commissioner Srinagar, Akshay Labroo, on Tuesday convened a meeting of engineers from JAKEDA and KPDCL at the Meeting Hall of the DC Office Complex to review the progress and latest status of the solarization of government buildings in the district. The meeting aimed at assessing the pace of implementation and addressing any challenges in achieving the targets set under the initiative.
At the outset, the Deputy Commissioner took a detailed appraisal of the ongoing works related to the solarization programme, which is focused on reducing dependence on conventional power sources, promoting clean and renewable energy, and lowering electricity expenditure of government establishments. He emphasized that the initiative is a significant step toward sustainable development and efficient energy management in the district.
During the meeting, it was informed that a total of 917 government buildings have been identified for the installation of rooftop solar systems. Out of these, solar panels have already been installed on 602 buildings, while work on the remaining structures is currently in progress.
The officials highlighted that consistent efforts are being made to complete the installations within the designated timeline.
The Deputy Commissioner was also presented with a detailed report regarding the installation of smart meters in government buildings. The initiative is aimed at improving energy monitoring and ensuring better management of power consumption across departments. Officials briefed the meeting about the progress made so far and the steps being taken to enhance efficiency through the use of advanced technology.
While reviewing the pace of work, Akshay Labroo stressed the need to accelerate the ongoing efforts to ensure timely completion of all pending projects. He directed the concerned agencies to maintain strict adherence to the stipulated timelines and avoid unnecessary delays. He also emphasized the importance of coordination between departments to streamline the implementation process and resolve any operational issues promptly.
During the meeting, the District Statistics and Evaluation Officer apprised the Deputy Commissioner of the status of the physical verification of solarized government buildings conducted so far.

The verification process is being carried out to ensure quality, functionality, and proper installation of the solar systems.
The meeting was attended by Chief Planning Officer Fayaz Ahmad Dar, IAS Probationer Alfred Thomas, District Statistics and Evaluation Officer Shah Ismail Bangroo, engineers from KPDCL and JAKEDA, along with other concerned officers. The participants discussed various aspects of the project and shared inputs to improve its execution.
The review concluded with a renewed focus on expediting the solarization initiative, which is expected to contribute significantly to environmental sustainability and energy efficiency in the Srinagar district.
