In a significant step towards promoting a drug-free society, the Indian Army organised an extensive awareness and interaction programme under the Nasha Mukt Abhiyan at Khanetar Dak Bungalow in Loran, located in the Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir. The initiative, held on April 20, 2026, brought together local residents, youth, and community leaders with the aim of addressing the growing concern of substance abuse and encouraging healthier lifestyle choices among the younger generation.
The programme was designed as an interactive platform where Army personnel engaged directly with participants, particularly focusing on the youth. Through meaningful discussions, real-life examples, and motivational talks, the Army highlighted the serious physical, psychological, and social consequences of drug addiction. The sessions were structured to ensure active participation, allowing attendees to openly discuss challenges and seek guidance on resisting peer pressure and negative influences that often lead to substance abuse.
The initiative aligns with the broader national campaign aimed at eradicating drug abuse through awareness, education, and community involvement. By conducting such outreach programmes, the Indian Army continues to expand its role beyond traditional security responsibilities, contributing actively to social development and nation-building efforts in the region. The event at Loran reflected this commitment, showcasing how institutions can play a constructive role in tackling pressing social issues.
A large number of village elders, students, and youth groups attended the programme, demonstrating strong community interest and engagement. The presence of elders added depth to the discussions, as they shared their perspectives and emphasized the importance of cultural values and family support in guiding young individuals. Students and youth participants responded enthusiastically, showing a willingness to adopt positive changes and contribute to a healthier society.
During the interaction, the Army stressed the importance of collective responsibility in combating the menace of drug abuse. Families, educators, and community leaders were urged to remain vigilant and actively involved in shaping the future of the youth. The speakers highlighted that preventing substance abuse requires a coordinated effort, where guidance, awareness, and consistent support play crucial roles.
The programme also underlined the need to channel the energy of young people into constructive activities such as education, sports, and skill development. By encouraging discipline, purpose, and self-awareness, the initiative aimed to empower youth to make informed life choices and build a strong foundation for their future. The Army reiterated that a healthy and motivated youth population is essential for the overall progress and stability of society.
As the event concluded, a strong message of unity and continued effort was conveyed to all participants.
