Deputy Commissioner Srinagar, Akshay Labroo, who also serves as Chairman of the District Red Cross Society, on Wednesday handed over a cheque of ?2.5 lakh to the District Tuberculosis Officer to provide additional nutritional support to tuberculosis patients under the Pradhan Mantri TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan in the district.
The initiative aims to strengthen patient care by addressing nutritional deficiencies, which play a crucial role in the treatment and recovery of individuals suffering from tuberculosis. The financial assistance will benefit patients registered under the Nikshay Mitra programme, ensuring they receive adequate dietary support alongside medical treatment.
The cheque was formally handed over during a brief Celebration attended by Additional Deputy Commissioner Aadil Fareed, Chief Medical Officer Dr Tahir Sajad, District Tuberculosis Officer Dr Abdul Rouf, Block Medical Officer Hazratbal Dr Abdul Majid, District Nodal Officer Dr Mudasir and other concerned officials.
Speaking on the occasion, the Deputy Commissioner highlighted the importance of nutrition as a key factor in improving treatment outcomes for tuberculosis patients. He stated that proper dietary support enhances immunity and accelerates recovery, making it an essential component of comprehensive TB care. He added that the district administration is committed to ensuring that all affected individuals receive holistic support, including both medical and nutritional assistance. Akshay Labroo also urged health officials and field staff to work with dedication and coordination to further strengthen tuberculosis care services across the district.
He emphasized the need for a collaborative approach to identify patients, monitor their progress and ensure timely intervention, thereby improving overall treatment success rates. The District Tuberculosis Officer expressed gratitude to the Deputy Commissioner and the district administration for their continued support towards TB care initiatives.

He noted that a similar contribution of ?2.31 lakh was provided in the previous year, followed by ?2.5 lakh this year, reflecting a sustained commitment to addressing the needs of TB patients in Srinagar.
He further stated that the additional funds would significantly contribute to better nutritional support, which in turn would lead to improved recovery rates and enhanced patient outcomes. He also reiterated the importance of community participation and awareness in eliminating tuberculosis from the region.
Officials informed that this assistance is in addition to the monthly financial support of ?1,000 provided to TB patients during the course of their treatment under the Central TB Division. The combined support is expected to ease the financial burden on patients and encourage adherence to treatment protocols.
The initiative underscores the district administration’s proactive approach in tackling tuberculosis by focusing not only on medical treatment but also on the overall well-being of patients, aligning with the broader goal of achieving a TB-free India.
