To commemorate Human Rights Day, the NSS Unit, in collaboration with the Equal Opportunity Cell of Dogra Degree College, organized an Essay Writing Competition on 11th of December 2024. The event aimed to raise awareness among students about the significance of human rights and the need to protect them globally.
The competition, which saw participation from 8 enthusiastic students, focused on the theme of human rights and their vital role in shaping an inclusive and just society. It provided an opportunity for students to express their views on critical human rights issues and showcase their writing skills.
Shagun Bhagat, BA Semester 1st bagged first prize while Udhay, BA Semester 1st and Sakshi Rajput, B.Com Semester 1st bagged 2nd and 3rd Prizes respectively.
NSS Programme Officer, Simran Thakur, appreciated the active participation and creativity of the students. “Human rights are fundamental to every individual’s dignity, and it’s essential for young minds to be aware of these rights. Such initiatives help in nurturing responsible citizens who understand the importance of equality and justice,” she said.
Monika Sharma, Convener of the Equal Opportunity Cell, emphasized the importance of raising awareness about equal opportunities for all. “Human rights are the foundation of a fair and inclusive society, and through such events, we aim to educate our students about their role in promoting these values,” she stated.
Principal Dr. Bela Thakur expressed her gratitude to the NSS Unit and the Equal Opportunity Cell for organizing the event. “I am proud of our students’ active participation in this essay competition. It reflects their commitment to understanding and advocating for human rights,” she added.
The event concluded with the distribution of certificates to the participants, acknowledging their contributions. The competition proved to be an insightful and engaging way for students to reflect on the importance of human rights and continue their efforts in promoting them within their communities.
