BUDGAM, Jul 9
The District Administration Budgam intensified its campaign against drug abuse by organising a series of awareness programmes, pledge ceremonies and plantation drives across different parts of the district under the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan (NMBA). The initiatives were aimed at promoting a healthy, drug-free society while encouraging active participation from government departments, educational institutions and the general public.
The programmes formed part of the district administration’s sustained efforts to create awareness about the harmful effects of substance abuse and strengthen community involvement in the nationwide campaign against drugs. Through a combination of educational activities, public pledges and environmental initiatives, the administration sought to reinforce the message that collective action is essential to eliminate the menace of drug addiction.
One of the major events was held at the District Police Lines, Budgam, where an awareness programme and pledge ceremony were organised under the banner of the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan. Officials, police personnel and participants from different sections of society attended the programme and pledged to remain committed to the fight against drug abuse. They also resolved to spread awareness about the harmful physical, mental and social consequences of addiction within their communities.
Speakers at the programme highlighted the growing challenge posed by substance abuse, particularly among young people, and stressed that preventing drug addiction requires the combined efforts of families, educational institutions, government agencies and civil society organisations. They urged participants to become responsible citizens by educating others about the dangers of drugs and encouraging those affected to seek timely support and rehabilitation.
In another significant initiative, the Forest Range Budgam organised a pledge ceremony-cum-awareness programme at Sheikh-ul-Alam Hall, Budgam. The event focused on educating participants about the adverse impact of drug addiction on individuals, families and society. Resource persons highlighted preventive measures, the importance of early intervention and the role of public participation in creating a drug-free environment.
Participants were encouraged to support the objectives of the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan by remaining vigilant against drug-related activities and promoting healthy lifestyles among children and youth.
The programme also emphasised the importance of community awareness and cooperation in preventing the spread of substance abuse across the district.
Adding an environmental dimension to the campaign, a plantation drive was organised at Government Degree College (GDC), Magam.
The event linked environmental conservation with the broader objective of promoting a healthy and positive lifestyle. Students, faculty members and government officials enthusiastically participated in planting saplings within the college campus, symbolising growth, hope and a collective commitment to a cleaner and healthier future.
The plantation drive also served as an opportunity to spread awareness about the importance of protecting the environment while encouraging young people to stay away from harmful habits and contribute positively to society. Participants reaffirmed their commitment to supporting both environmental conservation and the mission of building a drug-free community.
The programmes witnessed enthusiastic participation from government officials, students, educational institutions and members of the public, reflecting increasing community support for the nationwide campaign against substance abuse. Interactive sessions and public pledges strengthened awareness regarding the long-term consequences of drug addiction and the importance of preventive action at the grassroots level.
Reiterating its commitment to the objectives of the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan, the District Administration Budgam stated that awareness campaigns, community outreach programmes and inter-departmental coordination would continue across the district. The administration appealed to all sections of society to actively participate in the movement and work together towards making Budgam a healthy, safe and drug-free district.
