new york: A devastating fire in the early hours of Thursday morning at a residential building in the Magaluf area of Spain’s Mallorca island has claimed two lives and left several others injured, authorities confirmed.
According to officials, the blaze broke out around 5 am on the third floor of a residential complex located in the popular tourist destination. The fire quickly spread through the building, forcing residents to evacuate in panic.
Emergency responders said nine people were taken to nearby medical facilities after suffering smoke inhalation. More than a dozen residents were safely evacuated from the building as firefighters worked to bring the blaze under control.
Despite attempts by residents to extinguish the fire before it spread, the flames engulfed multiple parts of the building. Firefighters managed to contain and extinguish the blaze approximately two hours after it began.
The Civil Guard (Spain) confirmed that the cause of the fire is currently under investigation. Authorities have not yet released the identities or nationalities of the victims.
Magaluf, where the incident occurred, is a well-known coastal hotspot in Mallorca, located about 22 kilometers from Palma de Mallorca. The area is especially popular among British and German tourists for its beaches and nightlife.
