Akhilesh Yadav on Monday launched a sharp attack on the Bharatiya Janata Party government in Uttar Pradesh over the worsening power crisis in the state, alleging that BJP leaders are attempting to shield themselves from growing public anger through “paper politics.”
In a post shared on social media, the Samajwadi Party chief claimed that BJP MLAs and MPs, alarmed by increasing resentment among the people due to prolonged power cuts and electricity-related problems, are writing letters to the government only to protect their political image. He described these letters as a “paper shield” being used by frightened BJP representatives to save themselves from public backlash.
Akhilesh Yadav further remarked that such letters were not genuine “public interest letters” meant for solving people’s problems, but were instead “applications for tickets” from the opposition for the upcoming elections. He sarcastically suggested that several BJP leaders were preparing to leave what he called the BJP’s “sinking ship” ahead of future political battles. The former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister made it clear that the Samajwadi Party alliance had no place for leaders who, according to him, had only caused pain and hardship to the public during their tenure.
Highlighting the difficulties faced by ordinary citizens during the intense summer heat, Akhilesh said that only common families truly understand the suffering of the elderly, sick people, women and children struggling for food, water and electricity amid the ongoing crisis. He alleged that those who once claimed to find opportunities even in disasters were now themselves responsible for creating a disaster-like situation in the state.
Taking an indirect swipe at government functionaries, he said problems cannot be resolved by people who merely raise their hands, shout slogans and make speeches, but disappear when practical solutions are required.
Akhilesh Yadav also mocked the state government by saying that this was a good opportunity to remove a completely failed “messenger-minister,” adding sarcastically that it could also provide the Chief Minister an opportunity to expand the cabinet and accommodate another “giftless” individual.
The SP president further alleged that the BJP government was fully aware that it would not return to power in Uttar Pradesh and was therefore ignoring public grievances and demands. According to him, the government’s only focus now was on filling its coffers while the public continued to suffer. He added that people have now started considering the BJP a burden on society.
