UP continues to face extreme heat-wave conditions; Nautapa from tomorrow

Uttar Pradesh is reeling under intense heatwave conditions particularly in Bundelknd and southern parts of the state. The entire state has been experiencing intense sunshine since Sunday morning and humidity has increased due to slow wind speed. A heat-wave alert has been issued for 54 districts on Sunday, with a red alert for 10 of these districts. However, there is also a thunderstorm and rain alert in 24 districts of western Uttar Pradesh. The Meteorological Department says a western disturbance has activated and its effects can be felt in western Uttar Pradesh, especially in the districts bordering Delhi. On Saturday, Banda was the hottest city in the state with a temperature of 46.2°C. Prayagraj recorded 46°C, Jhansi 44.9°C, Kanpur 44.2°C and Sultanpur 44.4°C. Light rains were reported in Ghaziabad while thunderstorms struck Mathura, Ayodhya, Barabanki and Gonda. Meanwhile, “Nautapa”( Nautapa refers to the traditional nine-day period of the year when the Sun transits the Rohini Nakshatra (lunar constellation), bringing the most intense summer heat) begins on Monday, with the possibility of scorching heat and westerly winds for at least the next six days. According to the Meteorological Department, rain may provide some relief after six days.
According to the Regional Meteorological Center, dry and clear weather is expected due to the absence of any active weather system in the state. Heat waves will intensify in some areas over the next week.
