SRINAGAR, May 3
The Office of the Principal Census Officer (Urban), Srinagar, led by the Commissioner of Srinagar Municipal Corporation, has issued a comprehensive public appeal calling upon all residents of urban Srinagar to actively participate in the Self-Enumeration phase of Census 2027. The exercise is scheduled to be conducted from May 17 to May 31, 2027, and is being described as a significant step toward transforming the traditional census process into a modern, technology-driven system.
Officials stated that the Self-Enumeration phase represents a major shift toward a digitally enabled, transparent, and citizen-friendly approach to data collection. Under this system, residents will be able to independently submit their demographic and household details through an online platform, eliminating the need for complete dependence on door-to-door manual surveys. The move is expected to streamline the process, reduce human error, and improve the overall efficiency of census operations.
The initiative has been designed with the dual objective of enhancing accuracy and promoting citizen participation. By allowing individuals to directly input their own information, authorities believe that the authenticity of data will significantly improve. At the same time, the system encourages a sense of responsibility among citizens, making them active contributors to a nationwide exercise that forms the backbone of governance and development planning.
The Office has emphasized that participation from every household is essential for building a reliable and comprehensive statistical database. Such data is crucial for informed decision-making in areas such as infrastructure development, urban planning, healthcare, education, and the implementation of welfare schemes. Without accurate and complete data, effective policy formulation becomes challenging, making public cooperation indispensable.
Residents have been urged to complete the self-enumeration process within the notified timeframe and to ensure that the information provided is correct, complete, and truthful.
Authorities have advised citizens to access the official Census Self-Enumeration Portal and carefully follow the instructions while submitting their details. Upon successful submission, a Self-Enumeration Identification number will be generated, which must be securely preserved for future reference.
Officials have also highlighted the importance of timely participation, noting that early submission can help avoid last-minute congestion and technical difficulties. The administration is making efforts to ensure that the digital platform remains accessible and user-friendly, enabling people from different backgrounds to participate without difficulty. Awareness campaigns are also expected to be carried out to educate residents about the process and its importance.
To maintain the integrity and reliability of the data collected, designated census enumerators will conduct field verification visits after the self-enumeration phase concludes. During these visits, households will be required to present their Self-Enumeration ID for validation. Citizens have been requested to extend full cooperation to the enumerators, as this step is vital to ensuring the credibility of the census data. Reiterating the importance of the exercise, the Office stated that the census serves as a cornerstone of governance and plays a pivotal role in shaping policies and development strategies. It directly influences administrative planning, infrastructure expansion, and the equitable allocation of resources across regions.
For any queries, clarifications, or technical assistance, residents can reach out to the 24×7 Census Control Room set up at the Office of the Principal Census Officer (Urban), Srinagar.
The authorities have urged citizens to treat this initiative as a civic responsibility and a national duty, emphasizing that their active participation will contribute significantly to shaping the future development of the region.
