The Jammu and Kashmir Veterinary Doctors Association, Jammu, organized a one-day technical conference at the Convention Centre in Jammu, bringing together experts, professionals, and stakeholders to discuss the evolving role of veterinarians in ensuring food safety and public health. The conference was held under the theme “Veterinarians: Guardians of Food and Health,” highlighting the critical contribution of veterinary professionals in sustaining both animal and human well-being. Minister for Agriculture Production, Rural Development and Panchayati Raj, Cooperative and Election Department, Javid Ahmad Dar attended the event as the chief guest. Addressing the gathering, he praised the indispensable role played by veterinarians across various sectors. He noted that veterinary professionals contribute significantly through their work in field operations, farms, clinics, laboratories, and aquaculture, ensuring the health and productivity of livestock while also safeguarding public health through improved food safety standards. The Minister emphasized that the veterinary sector holds immense economic importance, particularly in a region where a large population depends on agriculture and allied activities for livelihood. He pointed out that healthy and productive livestock directly contribute to increased food production, higher income for farmers, and the generation of employment opportunities. He further stated that a strong veterinary infrastructure is essential for strengthening rural livelihoods and enhancing resilience within the agricultural ecosystem.
Highlighting the government’s commitment, Javid Ahmad Dar said that under the leadership of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, consistent efforts are being made to frame policies that promote the growth of the rural economy, with special attention to the livestock sector. He assured participants that the issues and concerns raised during the conference would be taken up on priority and addressed in a time-bound manner. Earlier in the day, the Minister visited exhibition stalls set up at the venue, where he interacted with veterinary doctors, researchers, and other stakeholders. He appreciated the innovative approaches and technologies being showcased, acknowledging their role in advancing veterinary practices and improving animal health management. The conference provided a platform for meaningful discussions on emerging challenges in the livestock sector, including disease management, technological advancements, and sustainable practices. Experts shared their insights and explored solutions aimed at improving veterinary services and strengthening the overall framework of animal healthcare. Participants collectively reaffirmed the vital role of veterinarians as guardians of both food safety and public health.
