Minister for Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs, IT, Transport, Youth Services & Sports, and Science & Technology, Satish Sharma, today attended the annual sports day at PM Shri NB/Sub Bansi Lal Government High School, Maira Mandrian, where students showcased their enthusiasm and sporting spirit in a vibrant display of talent and energy.
The event witnessed an overwhelming response, with active participation from students, teachers and members of the local community. The lively atmosphere reflected a growing awareness and culture of sports and physical fitness at the grassroots level. Various athletic events and competitions were organised, encouraging students to demonstrate their physical abilities and competitive spirit.
Chief Education Officer Ajeet Sharma, along with several other officers from different departments, was also present on the occasion. The appearance of officials and community members added significance to the event, highlighting the importance of sports in overall development.
Addressing the gathering, Satish Sharma highlighted the transformative power of sports in shaping the future of young people.
He stated that youth are the backbone of society and emphasized that sports serve as a vital tool to channel their energy in a constructive and disciplined manner. According to him, participation in sports not only enhances physical fitness but also instills values such as teamwork, leadership, perseverance and resilience among students.
The Minister reiterated the government’s commitment to building a robust sports ecosystem that nurtures talent from the grassroots level to national and international platforms. He said that special focus is being laid on identifying and supporting young talent from rural and remote areas, ensuring that they are provided with equal opportunities to excel.
Outlining the policy priorities, Satish Sharma underlined that the government is actively working towards expanding sports infrastructure across the region. He mentioned that efforts are being made to upgrade playgrounds, provide modern equipment and create facilities that meet the standards required for professional training. In addition, youth engagement programmes are being strengthened to encourage greater participation in sports activities.
The Minister also stressed the importance of integrating physical education more effectively within the academic framework. He noted that a balanced approach combining academics and sports is essential for the holistic development of students. He urged educational institutions to promote sports as an integral part of the learning process rather than treating it as an extracurricular activity.
Further, Satish Sharma stated that initiatives under the Youth Services and Sports sector are being intensified to identify talent at an early stage and provide proper training and exposure. He emphasized that young athletes from far-flung areas must be given adequate support, coaching and opportunities to compete at higher levels.
Reiterating the importance of discipline and a healthy lifestyle, the Minister encouraged students to actively participate in sports and maintain a balance between their studies and physical activities. He advised them to adopt sports not only as a means of recreation but also as a path towards personal growth and success.
The event concluded with a prize distribution ceremony, where outstanding performers were honoured with medals and certificates for their achievements. The recognition of talent further motivated students to pursue excellence in sports.
On the occasion, the Minister also laid the foundation stone for several developmental initiatives aimed at strengthening public infrastructure in the area. These initiatives are expected to contribute to the overall development of the region and improve facilities for the local population.
