In its continued efforts to strengthen ties with local communities and foster mutual trust, the Indian Army organized an interaction with members of the Gujjar and Bakkarwal communities at Luni Darman village, Rajouri.
The Gujjars and Bakkarwals, culturally rich ethnic groups of the Himalayan region, are known for their deep-rooted traditions and unique way of life.
Approximately 11% of the population in Jammu & Kashmir belongs to these communities, with many leading a nomadic lifestyle.
Each year, they undertake seasonal migrations to the Pir Panjal ranges with their livestock. During the interaction, Army personnel engaged closely with the locals, addressing concerns regarding basic amenities, healthcare, education and support during seasonal migration.
The Army reassured the community of its continued commitment to their welfare and development.

The initiative was met with appreciation from the Gujjar and Bakkarwal community members, who expressed gratitude for the Army’s ongoing support and cooperation. Such interactions contribute to fostering peace, stability and inclusive development in the region.
