In a significant move to ensure the welfare of stray and rescued cattle, Col Mahan Singh (Retd), Chairman of the District Development Council (DDC) Kathua, today visited the Gaushala at Keedian Gandyal. He was accompanied by DDC Keedian Gandyal Dr. Shaveta Singh, DDC Marheen Karan Atri, local social activists, and officials from the Rural Engineering Wing, including the Executive Engineer and staff.
The Gaushala, which currently houses over 500 cows, primarily stray animals and those rescued from bovine smugglers, has been a focal point of the DDC Council’s welfare initiatives. During the visit, Col Mahan Singh inspected the ongoing improvement works funded by the DDC Council under the District Capex budget, with an allocation of ?21.0 lakh specifically for the Gaushala’s enhancement.
Speaking to media personnel, Col Mahan Singh highlighted the importance of collective responsibility in supporting the Gaushala. He appealed to the residents of Kathua, particularly followers of Sanatan Sanskriti, to contribute generously toward this noble cause and the sustenance of these animals.
“All members of the DDC Council remain deeply concerned about the welfare of this Gaushala and have been consistently contributing to its improvement,” Col Mahan stated. He further emphasized the need for ensuring quality work and timely completion of ongoing projects.
During his visit, Col Mahan Singh interacted with Gau Sewaks (caretakers of the cows) to understand their challenges and assured them that their genuine concerns would be addressed.
He reiterated his commitment to further enhancing facilities at the Gaushala and improving the living conditions of the animals housed there. This visit underscores the DDC Council’s dedication to promoting animal welfare and reflects Col Mahan Singh’s vision of fostering community involvement in initiatives rooted in compassion and cultural values.
