JAMMU, Sept 9
The Indian Army and Indian Air Force have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Gati Shakti Vishwavidyalaya, Vadodara, to boost the skills and capabilities of their personnel in logistics operations. The MoU was signed in the presence of Raksha Mantri Shri Rajnath Singh and Minister of Railways Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw in New Delhi on 9th September 2024.
The collaboration aims to provide higher expertise in logistics, enabling the armed forces to develop in-house proficiency in managing logistics operations.
It aligns with national development plans such as the PM Gati Shakti National Master Plan 2021 and the National Logistics Policy 2022, contributing to the broader vision of strengthening India’s logistics infrastructure.
Speaking at the event, Shri Rajnath Singh described the MoU as a monumental partnership that will help create a world-class, future-proof logistics system, essential for achieving self-reliance in the defense sector. He emphasized that logistics is evolving into a critical component of military operations and national security, stating that an efficient logistics system is vital for rapid mobilization and delivery of resources in military operations. “We need seamless movement of troops, equipment, and supplies, and this partnership will address the needs of our forces through knowledge, innovation, and collaboration,” he added.
Shri Rajnath Singh also stressed the importance of self-reliance in defense logistics, noting that India should train its personnel using its own resources, such as Gati Shakti Vishwavidyalaya, and manufacture necessary equipment domestically to ensure a strong foundation for Aatmanirbharta (self-reliance).
The MoU includes provisions for experiential learning through real-world case studies, providing the armed forces with cutting-edge logistics education and research. Shri Singh expressed confidence that the leadership and operational experience of the armed forces personnel, combined with the expertise of Gati Shakti Vishwavidyalaya, will shape the next generation of logistics experts to meet the dynamic needs of modern warfare.
Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw, Minister of Railways, expressed similar sentiments, noting that Gati Shakti Vishwavidyalaya will play a vital role in empowering the armed forces with innovative logistics solutions.
The event was attended by senior officials from the Ministries of Defence and Railways, including the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), Air Force Chief, Army Chief, Defence Secretary, and Chairman of the Railway Board.
