NEW DELHI, Feb 25
As Pope Francis continued his treatment for double pneumonia, the Vatican on Tuesday in its latest health update said that he has had yet another rested night.
“The Pope slept well, all night,” said Vatican.
The Vatican secretary of state Cardinal Pietro Parolin and his deputy met with the Pope to approve the new decrees of candidates for possible sainthood.
Resuming the work from the hospital, Pope Francis called a parish in Gaza, that he has kept in touch with since the Israel-Hamas war began.
Hundreds gathered at St Peter’s Square for the nightly Rosary on Monday night praying for the speedy recovery of the Pope.
Parolin, while presiding the service, said that the chorus of prayers for his recovery swelled up from around the world since his admission. The vigil was to continue on Tuesday night, presided by senior Vatican official, Cardinal Antonio Tagle of the Philippines.
Pope Francis was admitted to Rome’s Gemelli Hospital on February 14 following severe respiratory issues.
The Vatican, in its health update on Monday, said that the Pope’s condition had “slight improvement”. Since Saturday, the Pope hadn’t had any more respiratory crises and the flow and concentration of supplemental oxygen has been reduced, it said.
Also, the ‘mild’ kidney failure, detected on Sunday, was “not a cause of concern”, said the Vatican.
In his first message from the hospital, Pope Francis asked Catholics to pray for him. “Confidently continuing…carrying on with the necessary treatment,” he said.
