In a significant move towards empowering women in the remote areas of Rajouri District, the Indian Army has officially inaugurated a new stitching and tailoring centre in Guglinar, a secluded village in Middle Kakora. This initiative is designed to provide valuable training and create employment opportunities for local women, aiming to foster self-reliance and economic independence within the community.
The inauguration ceremony, held on July 17, 2024, marked the beginning of an important new chapter for the women of Guglinar and surrounding areas. The stitching centre is part of the Indian Army’s ongoing efforts to support and uplift the lives of residents in border regions through community development projects. By offering a platform for women to learn tailoring skills, the Army seeks to enhance their socio-economic status and contribute to the overall well-being of the rural population.
A total of 47 women from Middle Kakora village have enrolled in the classes offered at the new centre. This enthusiastic participation reflects the community’s eagerness to embrace new opportunities for skill development and financial stability. The decision to open the centre in Guglinar was driven by the recognition of the area’s isolation and the need for focused development efforts to reach underserved communities.
Local women with established tailoring skills have been employed as instructors for the training sessions. This choice underscores the Army’s commitment to integrating local talent into the initiative and providing job opportunities within the community. By involving local instructors, the program not only ensures that the training is relevant and practical but also supports the local economy and builds a sense of ownership among the participants.
The infrastructure for the stitching centre has been comprehensively developed to support the training program. The Army has provided all necessary resources, including raw materials, sewing machines, and other accessories required for the classes. This includes a well-equipped classroom setting where the women can learn a range of tailoring techniques, from basic stitching to advanced garment design and construction.
The venue for the classes has been generously provided by the locals, highlighting the strong bond between the community and the Indian Army. This gesture of support from the residents of Guglinar is a testament to the collaborative spirit of the initiative and the shared goal of community improvement. It also reflects the Army’s broader mission to work closely with local populations to address their needs and contribute to their development.
The inauguration event featured a demonstration of the stitching machines and a detailed overview of the training program. The demonstration showcased the equipment that will be used in the classes and provided the participants with a glimpse of the skills they will be learning. Following the demonstration, an interactive session was held between the participants and the Army personnel.
This session allowed the women to ask questions, express their aspirations, and engage directly with the officers involved in the project.
The interactive component of the event was designed to foster a sense of community and mutual respect between the Army and the local residents. It also served as an opportunity for the participants to learn more about the training program and the resources available to them. This open dialogue reinforced the Army’s commitment to the welfare of the people in the region and underscored the importance of community involvement in the success of such initiatives.
The stitching centre at Guglinar represents a significant step forward in the Indian Army’s efforts to promote community development and women’s empowerment in border regions. By providing a structured environment for skill development and economic opportunity, the Army aims to help the women of Guglinar build a better future for themselves and their families.
As the training program progresses, the Indian Army looks forward to seeing the positive impacts of the initiative. The hope is that the skills acquired through this program will lead to new employment opportunities for the participants and contribute to the broader goal of socio-economic development in the region.
