In a landmark move that signifies BFGI’s unwavering commitment to academic excellence, eminent educationist and former Vice Chairman of AICTE New Delhi, Prof. (Dr.) M.P. Poonia has joined the esteemed institution as its Campus Director. Dr. Poonia’s appointment ushers in a new era of exceptional leadership and strategic direction for BFGI.
Dr. Poonia brings to BFGI an unparalleled wealth of experience spanning over 37 years. Distinguished for his expertise in mechanical engineering, renewable energy and sustainable development, he holds an impressive academic record with an M.Tech. (Thermal Engg.) from IIT Delhi and a Ph.D. in IC engines. Throughout his illustrious career, Dr. Poonia has held esteemed positions in various national-level organizations, demonstrably shaping the landscape of technical education in India. Elated by Dr. Poonia’s appointment, BFGI Chairman Dr. Gurmeet Singh Dhaliwal stated, “This is a momentous occasion not only for BFGI but for the entire region. Dr. Poonia’s distinguished career and proven track record make him an ideal leader to spearhead BFGI’s journey towards becoming an institution of international repute.” Dr. Dhaliwal praised Dr. Poonia’s remarkable achievements, including his pivotal role in transforming Government Engineering College, Bikaner, from a struggling institution to a thriving center of academic excellence. Dr. Poonia’s visionary leadership not only increased student enrollment from 500 to a staggering 7000 but also spearheaded crucial industrial collaborations, significantly boosting the college’s revenue and reputation. These remarkable accomplishments culminated in the college being recognized as the best college in Rajasthan by the state assembly.
His contributions to MNIT, Jaipur, were instrumental in propelling the institution to a position of prominence in North India. His exceptional leadership abilities were further recognized with his appointment as the Director of the National Institute of Technical Teachers Training and Research (NITTTR), Chandigarh. Dr. Poonia’s commitment to empowering future generations is further exemplified by his dedication to the inclusion of differently-abled students. During his tenure, he was conferred the prestigious National Award by the Hon’ble President of India for his remarkable work towards fostering the educational advancement of disabled persons. With Dr. Poonia at the helm, BFGI is poised to embark on a new chapter of growth and development.
