Renowned Indology educator, Ms. Rajshree Beneymadoo, made a remarkable journey from the picturesque city of Moka in Mauritius to the historic city of Jammu, covering a staggering 7,000 kilometers. Her purpose? To personally receive a copy of the book on the illustrious Balwant Thakur, set against the iconic backdrop of Amar Mahal.
Ms. Beneymadoo, a faculty member at the prestigious Mahatma Gandhi Institute (MGI) in Mauritius, is at the forefront of promoting and nurturing research while championing the preservation of cultural heritage and arts. Balwant Thakur, the cultural diplomat of India who previously headed the world’s largest Indian cultural center as its director in Mauritius, is no stranger to accolades.
During his tenure in Mauritius, Thakur orchestrated a cultural revolution, introducing novel approaches and innovative artistic creations. Over a span of two years, he orchestrated more than 200 spectacular events, pioneering the concept of mega cultural events and bringing forth the introduction of groundbreaking children’s theater in Mauritius.
Thakur’s creative prowess and his adept management of cultural affairs earned him the admiration and fandom of artists and cultural enthusiasts alike. His impactful contribution was commemorated with the production and printing of a monograph during his stay, tracing his evolution into an international icon as a playwright, theatre director, and administrator.
The coveted book on Balwant Thakur was officially released by the President of the Republic of Mauritius in an exclusive ceremony at the State House. Since its initial publication in Mauritius, the monograph has experienced an overwhelming demand, with the first edition quickly selling out. Now, a new edition has been released to meet the enthusiastic demand, and Ms. Rajshree Beneymadoo’s transcontinental journey stands as a testament to the global recognition, respect, and regard for Balwant Thakur and his contributions to the world of arts and culture.
