REASI, Nov 22
In a significant move for the agricultural community, District Development Commissioner Reasi, Vishesh Mahajan, today launched the PM Fasal Bima Yojna in Reasi District, aiming to provide coverage for Rabi 2023-24 crops. The launch took place during the Block Diwas meeting at Village Salal, Arnas.
Reflecting the timeliness of the initiative, it’s worth noting that the Fasal Bima Yojna portal became active just yesterday for the upcoming Rabi season.
Speaking on this occasion, the DDC emphasized the pivotal role this scheme will play in alleviating the financial risks faced by farmers due to crop losses, thereby contributing to stabilizing their income.
Addressing the gathering, Chief Agriculture Officer Reasi, Harbans Singh, stressed the importance of farmers enrolling under the scheme to avail benefits against weather vagaries affecting crops. This coverage extends to notified crops such as Paddy and Maize in the Kharif season, as well as Wheat in the Rabi season. Farmers can participate with a minimal premium of 2% (Kharif) and 1.5% (Rabi season), as per the Scale of Finance.
In a gesture to support farmers, District Development Commissioner Mahajan distributed 20 Mustard minikits free of cost. These minikits are designed to cover an area of four kanals per kilogram of seed, promoting area expansion under mustard crops and enhancing oilseed cultivation in the district.
Further reinforcing the commitment to farmers, DDC handed over Kisan Credit Cards (KCC) to eligible beneficiaries. Later, during his visit to the office of FPO Arnas, he provided guidance on the brand promotion of spices, emphasizing the importance of diversification in agriculture.
The event witnessed the presence of Sub Division Agriculture Officer Reasi, Vinod Khajuria, AEO Sanjay Sharma, and the dedicated team from the Agriculture Extension Agency and CEO FPO Arnas, collectively working towards the successful implementation of these agricultural initiatives. This launch marks a crucial step towards securing the well-being of farmers in Reasi District, offering financial protection and support against the uncertainties of crop-related challenges.
