BHADARWAH: Veer Naris and Veer Matas of Doda and Kishtwar Districts in J&K were felicitated by War Widows Association and Army’s Rashtriya Rifles (RR) Unit based at Bhadarwah.
A handout stated that 35 war widows were felicitated by the chief guest and president of War Widows Association, Damayanti V Tambay who presented cheques of Rs 10,000 each along with gifts to 35 Veer Naris and Veer Matas in the presence of Commanding Officer (CO) RR and ADC Rakesh Kumar. Tambay also discussed the issues related to pension and other emoluments in respect of Veer Naris as most of them live in far off areas of Kishtwar and Doda. The programme was aimed to interact with Veer Naris and understand their problems and other issues and to inform them about various government welfare schemes meant for them. Addressing the gathering CO RR said, the event was a reflection of an important tenet of the age-old tradition of Army to respect its soldiers who laid down their life for the nation.
Rekha Devi, war widow from Koti-Khangna, Doda said, she lost he husband in 2005 in an encounter with militants at Udyanpur. She expressed gratitude for the Army for always remaining available to them for help. Karishma Devi, 19, daughter of martyred soldier Rajeshwar Singh of Doda said, they feel proud whenever called for such events as the same recognizes sacrifice of her father who laid down his life defending sovereignty of the nation. A free medical camp for Veer Naris and their family members was also organized on the occasion.
Prominent among those present on the occasion were SDPO Meer Gafoor, SDM Gandoh Pritam Thapa, Ex Servicemen League President, Raj Singh Charak, Vikas Manhas and others.
