Langate College functions from old hospital building

A College in Langate area of Kupwara is functional from an old hospital building for past more than a year. The College was approved by the government in 2018 and the class work was started the next year. The College has got approval for four subjects in arts stream. It. However, has one permanent assistant professor of commerce besides one non-teaching member. The educated youth hired on academic arrangements run the College, said an official. Last year, the college enrolled 50 students for first semester, said an administrator. “This year we are expecting more students to join the College,” he said. However many students who have qualified class 12 exams said they would prefer to get admission in Handwara College. “But, we are being denied admission there and authorities are forcing us to take admission in Langate College,” said a student. The authorities are yet to start construction on of permanent campus of the langate College in Udipora village. “The delay in setting up the campus is one of the reasons for lesser number of students,” said the official. The langate College is working under supervision of Principal Handwara College, Ghulam Nabi Palla. “It is a developing College, but we are taking all measures to make it attractive for students,” he said. The Principal said they have not denied admission to any student at Handwara College. But, he said, the students were requested to opt Langate college which will increase enrollment there. He said Handwara College has 4,500 students on rolls. “If students from Langate too prefer this College it will put pressure on available infrastructure there,” the Principal said.
