Continuing its efforts to strengthen emergency healthcare services in the district, the District Administration Srinagar on Wednesday took a significant step towards improving medical response facilities by providing a fully equipped ambulance to the Block Medical Officer (BMO), Hazratbal. The initiative is aimed at enhancing medical transportation and ensuring timely emergency response, particularly for residents of Harwan Panchayat Block and other adjoining rural and remote areas.
The handover ceremony was held at the office of the Deputy Commissioner, Srinagar, and was attended by senior officials from the district administration and health department. Among those present were Chief Planning Officer Fayaz Ahmad Dar, Chief Medical Officer Dr. Tahir Sajad, BMO Hazratbal Dr. Abdul Majeed, Zonal Medical Officer SR Gunj Dr. Shafaqat, Zonal Medical Officer Zadibal Dr. Rubeena, along with other officers and health functionaries. Deputy Commissioner Srinagar, Akshay Labroo, formally handed over the ambulance and stated that the addition of this vehicle would significantly strengthen the emergency healthcare infrastructure in the Hazratbal medical block. He said that the ambulance would serve as a crucial resource for patients, especially those residing in tribal belts, rural habitations, and hard-to-reach areas where access to timely medical care remains a challenge. The Deputy Commissioner highlighted that improving emergency medical transport is a key priority for the administration, particularly in ensuring that critical patients, accident victims, and trauma cases receive timely assistance. He said that the availability of a dedicated ambulance will help reduce response time, improve patient outcomes, and ensure smoother coordination between health centres and referral hospitals.

He further emphasized that the effectiveness of such healthcare resources depends on their proper and optimal utilization. He directed the health authorities to ensure that the ambulance is deployed efficiently and remains available for emergency services at all times. He also stressed the need for maintaining high standards of service delivery so that patients can receive prompt medical attention without delay.
Officials present at the event noted that the new ambulance will play an important role in bridging gaps in healthcare accessibility, particularly in geographically dispersed and underserved regions of Srinagar district. It is expected to support healthcare teams in reaching critical cases more efficiently and transporting patients safely to appropriate medical institutions.
Health department representatives expressed gratitude for the initiative and assured that the ambulance will be used responsibly to strengthen emergency response mechanisms in the area. They also noted that such additions to the healthcare system contribute significantly to improving overall public health infrastructure and service delivery at the grassroots level.
The initiative forms part of the broader efforts by the district administration to upgrade healthcare facilities and ensure equitable access to medical services across Srinagar. Officials reiterated their commitment to further strengthening the health sector through improved infrastructure, better coordination, and enhanced emergency preparedness, particularly in rural and vulnerable areas.
