Samajwadi Party National President Akhilesh Yadav has alleged that Uttar Pradesh has never seen such a weak Chief Minister, who pressures poor and helpless victims of extreme atrocities to change their statements.
He charged that in the Karanda Kataria case in Ghazipur, changing statements does not alter the truth.
In a statement here on Sunday, Akhilesh Yadav asked, “Why did it take so long to file an FIR? Why were the statements changed? Why is the victim’s family being further harassed? Who prevented action against the supremacists who even pelted stones at the police? Why was the post-mortem questioned?”
He said that the truth is widely known, and that regardless of what the post-mortem report states, people in every household in the village are aware of the ground reality. “Everyone knows what happened and what is being claimed. This has spread the BJP’s lies across every community in the village, causing immense anger and resentment among the PDA community,” he charged.
The SP president said the Ghazipur girl murder case is a repeat of the Hathras case, adding that both share a common pattern: the victims’ families belonged to PDA groups, while the perpetrators were from dominant sections.
“Our serious question is: will mere token action bring justice to the victim’s family?” The root cause of this injustice is social discrimination. That is why we say that the focus should not be solely on the ‘rule of justice’, but on the ‘rule of social justice’. This should be the ultimate goal,” he said.
Akhilesh Yadav said the PDA’s mission to bring about “rule of social justice” is actually another movement for “real freedom” after independence. It speaks of a freedom that transforms people’s perspectives.
“Equality is a feeling born not from distance but from true affection. Only then will the nation be truly united and progress together. The day the distinction between the exploiter and the exploited ends, and people wholeheartedly accept equality, that day will bring ‘real freedom’. We are fighting for this and will continue to move forward. We will fight and win this battle under all circumstances, whether it takes years or centuries,” he said. In Ghazipur, the body of a girl from Karanda Kataria village was recovered from the Ganga river on April 15, and her family accused two youths of the murder. Police have arrested one of the accused.
