lucknow, DEC 30
termed it a “golden year of development,” while for the common people, it emerged as a symbol of achievements, challenges, and struggles.
From the economy to law and order, from infrastructure to education and health, the government claimed major achievements on several fronts, while some incidents and incomplete projects also raised questions. As the year draws to a close, let’s look at what Uttar Pradesh achieved in 2025 and on which fronts work remains to be done.
The Yogi government claimed that the economy reached new heights in 2025. According to government figures, the state’s GSDP increased from Rs 27.51 lakh crore to a target of Rs 32 lakh crore. Significantly, this achievement was accomplished without any new taxes. USD 683 million in foreign direct investment came into the state. The government says that Uttar Pradesh is now on the verge of becoming the third-largest economy in the country.
The state also set a record in ethanol production. 141.8 crore litres of ethanol were produced during the year. More than two crore new jobs were claimed to have been created in the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) sector. According to the government, the unemployment rate decreased from 19 per cent to 2.4 per cent, although the opposition continuously questioned these figures.
The Uttar Pradesh budget for 2025-26 was Rs 8 lakh crore, the largest budget in the state’s history. Of this, Rs 2.25 lakh crore was allocated for infrastructure development. Work accelerated on six new expressways, dozens of flyovers, airport expansion, and the laying of a network of rural roads. The increase in power generation led to claims that the state had become a power-surplus state. The Yogi government highlighted law and order as its greatest achievement. 62,000 constables were recruited in 2025. The government claimed that the crime rate in the state remained below the national average. Strict action continued against the mafia, land mafia, and organised criminals. New schemes were implemented for women’s safety, and emphasis was placed on modernising the police force. Taking a major step in the education sector this year, the recruitment of over one lakh teachers was completed. This included 70,000 primary and more than 30,000 secondary teachers. In the health sector, five new government medical colleges were started in Amethi, Bulandshahr, Lalitpur, Pilibhit, and Auraiya. With this, the number of medical colleges in the state exceeded 75. More than six crore Golden Cards were issued under the Ayushman Bharat scheme. The holding of the Mahakumbh 2025 was a major event for the government, where the dispensation claimed attendance of 65 crore people.
Though there was a major stampede in which officials claimed 30 deaths, unofficially, it was over 100.
The completion of the Ram Temple construction in Ayodhya was achieved, while work on the Kashi Vishwanath Corridor Phase-2 and the Mathura-Vrindavan Corridor accelerated. A total of 12 new tourism circuits were developed in Bundelkhand and Purvanchal.
In the startup sector, UP reached the third position in the country, and more than 25,000 new startups were registered. The implementation of DigiLocker and e-Office reduced paper-based processes in government work by up to 80 per cent.
