Shiv Sena (UBT) Jammu and Kashmir unit chief Manish Sahni has demanded that all educational institutions, including the medical college run by the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board, be declared Hindu universities and an 80% quota be set for Hindus. Along with this, keeping in mind the religious faith, an appeal has been made for immediate and appropriate solution to the controversy regarding admission in the medical college run by Shri Mata Vaishno Devi (out of total 50 seats, 42 seats are for students of Muslim community).
While briefing the media persons at the party’s state central office, state chief Manish Sahni stated that protests against the majority of seats given to other communities in the medical college run by the Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board are natural. He added that the government’s silence is fueling this protest into a movement. The government should find an immediate solution, taking into account our religious beliefs. To prevent this from happening in the future, educational institutions run by the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board should be granted Hindu educational status and a special quota.
He stated that granting minority status is not the solution. Jammu and Kashmir lacks a Minority Commission, and despite Hindus being a minority, their status has not been declared. Consequently, the majority enjoys all the privileges afforded to minorities. The university run by Shri Mata Vaishno Devi should be directly granted Hindu university status and 80% reservation for Hindus.
