Punjab Govt disburses Rs 2 crore compensation toflood-hit families, launches rehabilitation drive

Fulfilling its commitment to support families devastated by the recent floods, the Punjab Government has disbursed compensation amounting to ?2 crore to 50 affected families.
Revenue Minister Hardeep Singh Mundian said that the catastrophic floods claimed 56 lives in Punjab. Compensation has already been provided to 50 families, while the remaining six families will also receive compensation soon.
He added that girdawari (damage assessment) work has begun and will be completed at the earliest, ensuring full compensation to all affected persons.
Rural Development and Panchayats Minister Tarunpreet Singh Sond informed that the state government has launched a flood relief and rehabilitation programme across rural Punjab. He said that debris clearance and carcass disposal would be completed by September 24. To restore normalcy in the flood-hit areas, a special cleanliness drive has been launched in 2,300 villages. As part of the initiative, silt and debris are being removed, and residents are being sensitized about the risk of waterborne diseases. Medical teams are examining both people and livestock, while vaccinations are being administered to animals to contain the spread of disease.
Local Government Minister Dr Ravjot Singh said that nodal officers have been deputed to assist Executive Officers (EOs) to ensure cleanliness drives are carried out swiftly. Health Minister Dr Balbir Singh added that dedicated medical teams are actively examining flood-affected persons to prevent any disease outbreak. Agriculture Minister Gurmeet Singh Khudian stated that a special five-day cleanliness drive has been launched in grain markets to ensure seamless and hassle-free paddy procurement.
