Dogra Law College Organizes Its First Youth Parliament to Nurture Democratic Values Among Students

Dogra Law College (Autonomous), under the aegis of esteemed Dogra Educational Trust, hosted its First Youth Parliament on August 8, 2025, in the college auditorium, a landmark initiative aimed at cultivating democratic values, leadership, and policy awareness among young legal minds. The event commenced with a heartfelt Welcome Address by Dr. Dharamveer Sharma, Dean, Dogra Group of Colleges. He described the day as “a historic moment in the journey of Dogra Law College” and highlighted the event as “a celebration of democracy, debate, dialogue, and the indomitable spirit of the youth.”
A ceremonial lighting of the lamp accompanied by Saraswati Vandana was conducted to invoke blessings, followed by the presentation of saplings as a token of respect to the distinguished guests. Among the honoured dignitaries were Mr. Gohar Hafeez Fani, a distinguished youth peace and social activist from Jammu & Kashmir, who graced the occasion as the Special Guest. In his address, Mr. Gohar Hafeez Fani emphasized the role of youth in shaping a resilient democracy. “Youth Parliament is not merely an academic exercise but a stepping stone for nurturing future leaders who can uphold the ideals of democracy,” he said.
Dr. Samar Dev Singh Charak, in his brief yet inspiring remarks, highlighted the larger vision behind the event. He said, “This initiative reflects our vision to empower students not just with degrees, but with purpose and responsibility.” He also mentioned that such platforms ignite the spirit of national consciousness and civic responsibility.
Addressing the gathering, Mr. R.S. Katal expressed pride in witnessing the enthusiasm and discipline of the participants. “The Youth Parliament is a mirror of our democratic values and a training ground for tomorrow’s changemakers,” he said, applauding the students for their articulate and informed participation.
Adv. Gambhir Dev Singh Charak also shared a powerful message with the young minds present. “As budding legal minds, you must learn to speak for justice and think for the people-this is where it begins,” he said. He stressed that democracy thrives when youth engage with integrity and ethical thinking.
Dr Jay Prakash Srivastava, Principal Dogra Law College (Autonomous) and the Law faculty lent their wisdom and presence to the occasion.
The parliamentary session, introduced by Ms. Jaspreet, began with an Oath Ceremony. This was followed by an engaging Question Hour, Zero Hour, and Call Attention Motion, where students enthusiastically debated and raised pertinent national issues. The session also featured the Introduction and Voting on Bills, mirroring real parliamentary procedures and providing students a realistic legislative experience. The sessions were evaluated by the special guest of the event and Ms. Monika Sharma, Assistant Professor, Dogra Degree College.
The event concluded with remarks by the judges, followed by memento presentation to our special guest, prize distribution, and a Vote of Thanks by Ms. Lalita Prasad. The programme ended on a patriotic note with the National Anthem and a group photograph to commemorate the day.
