A deputation of the Jammu & Kashmir Casual Labour United Front (JKCLUF), led by their President Tanvir Hussain, called on senior Sat Sharma CA, President, Jammu and Kashmir BJP and submitted a memorandum detailing the grievances and long-standing demands of casual labourers employed in various government departments in the Union Territory.
MLA Ramnagar Sunil Bhardwaj and BJP Spokesperson Adv. Ankur Sharma were also present on the occasion.
The members of the deputation included Pardeep Sharma, Davinder Singh, Basu Dev, Vinod Kumar and Rakesh Kumar.
During their meeting with the BJP President, the members of the deputation highlighted several issues affecting thousands of casual and daily-wage workers, who have been awaiting justice and recognition for years. Among the primary demands included in the memorandum were fixing the minimum wages, regularization of daily wagers, online registration of left out casual employees in all departments, and provision of compensation in cases of death during service. The delegation also raised the issue of land acquisition by government departments without adequate compensation, impacting the livelihoods of several families.
President Tanvir Hussain expressed concern over the lack of a streamlined and unified mechanism for addressing the plight of casual labourers.
He emphasized that despite years of dedicated service by many workers, their contributions remain unrecognized, and they continue to work under uncertain conditions.
Sat Sharma CA, assured the delegation of the full support of BJP and commitment to addressing their grievances. He acknowledged the vital role casual labourers play in the functioning of government services and infrastructure projects. It is unfortunate that despite contributing to the system for years, these hardworking individuals are still struggling for their basic rights, he said.
Sat Sharma assured to take up the matter with the concerned authorities and ensure that these issues are resolved.
He also welcomed the demand for online registration, noting that digitization can bring transparency and accountability to the system, benefiting both the workers and the departments they serve.
The delegation thanked Sat Sharma CA for his time and understanding, expressing hope that their long-pending issues would finally receive the attention they deserve.
