Col Mahan Singh, Chairman of the District Development Council (DDC), Kathua, emphasized the urgent necessity to instill ‘Sanskar’, embodying time-honored values and traditions, alongside fostering a sense of ‘Swadeshi’ among budding children.
He made these remarks while attending the ‘Matri-Pitri’ Diwas function as Chief Guest at Sant Bal Yogeshwar Bhartiya Vidhya Mandir Vidhyalay, Dadwara, Billawar (Kathua), upon the invitation of School President Chander Bhushan and the School Management Committee. The event, celebrated by the Bhartiya Vidya Mandir chain of schools across the country every year on February 14, 2024, aims to promote Bhartiya culture and values among budding children.
Events like “Matri-Pitri Pujan,” paying obeisance to parents, “Vidhya Arambh Sanskar,” performing Havan, and carrying out the first-ever writing practice by Tiny Tots, as well as observing “Samarpan Diwas” and motivating children and parents to donate for the cause of the needy, were held on the occasion. Parents and relatives of more than 1000 children enrolled in the school were present.
In his address, Col Mahan Singh underscored the importance of preserving and passing down the rich cultural heritage of India to the next generation. He stated, “It is imperative that we imbue our children with the values and traditions that have stood the test of time. Inculcating ‘Sanskar’ fosters a sense of identity and belonging, grounding them in the essence of our diverse and vibrant culture.”
Furthermore, the DDC Chairman highlighted the significance of embracing ‘Swadeshi,’ which entails promoting indigenous products and practices. He emphasized, “Encouraging children to embrace ‘Swadeshi’ not only supports local industries and artisans but also instills a sense of pride in our heritage and fosters economic self-reliance.” He also urged parents, educators, and community members to collaborate in cultivating an environment where children can thrive while staying connected to their roots.
Col Mahan Singh also appreciated the curriculum being followed by the Vidhya Mandir Schools to inculcate knowledge, skills, Sanskars, and the feeling of Swadeshi among children. He appreciated the cultural program performed by children on the occasion and presented certificates of appreciation to Savita Sharma, Pardhana Acharya, and the best-performing faculty members and staff.
