In a continued effort to extend humanitarian assistance and improve access to healthcare in remote and border areas, the Indian Army conducted a series of medical camps under Operation Sadbhavana in the districts of Poonch and Rajouri on January 10, 2026. The camps were organized in the remote villages of Khanetar and Sindhra in Poonch district, and Darhal in Rajouri district, with the primary objective of providing free medical services to underprivileged and backward communities living in areas where access to regular healthcare facilities remains limited.
The medical camps were staffed by Regimental Medical Officers of the Indian Army, experienced nursing staff and medical teams from Government Medical College (GMC) Rajouri. The combined effort ensured that comprehensive healthcare services were delivered efficiently to the local population. Residents were provided with free medical consultations, basic diagnostic services and essential medicines, offering immediate relief to patients suffering from common health issues.
During the camps, special attention was given to diagnosing and treating ailments that are prevalent in the region. These included respiratory infections, skin diseases, joint and body pain, hypertension, diabetes and gastrointestinal disorders. The medical teams conducted thorough examinations and offered appropriate treatment and advice tailored to the needs of each patient. Elderly residents, women and children, who often face greater health risks due to harsh living conditions and lack of medical infrastructure, received focused care and attention.
In addition to treatment, the camps placed strong emphasis on health education and preventive care. The medical personnel conducted counselling sessions to raise awareness about personal hygiene, balanced nutrition and healthy lifestyle practices. Residents were educated on the importance of clean drinking water, proper sanitation and timely medical check-ups to prevent the onset of serious illnesses. Special sessions were held for women and caregivers to address issues related to maternal health, child nutrition and disease prevention.
The initiative proved particularly beneficial for villagers who otherwise have to travel long distances to reach the nearest healthcare facility, often at significant financial and physical cost. By bringing medical services directly to their doorstep, the Indian Army helped bridge a critical gap in healthcare delivery and ensured that basic medical support reached those most in need. Many beneficiaries expressed relief and gratitude for the timely assistance and quality medical care provided during the camps.
Beyond the immediate health benefits, the medical camps played an important role in strengthening the bond between the Indian Army and the local population. The presence of Army personnel in a humanitarian role fostered a sense of trust, security and goodwill among the residents. The interaction between soldiers, doctors and villagers created a positive environment of cooperation and mutual respect, reinforcing the Army’s image as a force committed not only to national security but also to social welfare.
Operation Sadbhavana has long been a cornerstone of the Indian Army’s efforts to support development and welfare in border and remote areas.
