Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on Saturday, extended warm congratulations to Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and his Bride Jodie?Haydon on their historic wedding in Canberra.
In a post on X, PM Modi wrote, “Congratulations to my good friend, PM Anthony Albanese and Ms. Jodie Haydon on their wedding. Wishing them a happy married life,” highlighting the personal rapport that has grown between the two leaders through the Quad and bilateral trade talks.
The private ceremony at The Lodge — the official prime-ministerial residence — marked the first time a sitting Australian prime minister has married while in office.
About 60 close family members and friends gathered just days after the final parliamentary sitting of the year. Albanese, 62, and Haydon, 46 — a financial-services professional who has accompanied him on numerous international trips — exchanged personal vows. A sweet highlight was the prime minister’s dog, Toto, serving as ring bearer, while Haydon’s five-year-old niece acted as flower girl.
In a joint statement, the newlyweds said, “We are absolutely delighted to share our love and commitment to spending our future lives together, in front of our family and closest friends.”
The couple will embark on a private honeymoon in Australia next week, with all expenses covered personally.
The intimate event drew international well-wishes, underscoring the strengthening diplomatic ties between India and Australia. PM Modi’s message reflected the “personal warmth” that has developed between the leaders amid frequent official interactions.
