The Cross Swords Gunners, in collaboration with the Indian Armed Forces, successfully organized an inspiring and educational Career Guidance Program at Government Higher Secondary School, Chowki Chowra, aiming to motivate students to consider careers in the nation’s defence services. Held under the theme “Intro to a Life Less Ordinary,” the initiative was designed to introduce young learners to the dynamic and honourable world of the Indian Armed Forces and to encourage them to pursue pathways that lead to disciplined, purposeful and service-driven lives.
The session offered students a rare opportunity to interact directly with experienced military personnel who shared valuable insights into the diverse officer entry routes available in the Indian Army, Navy and Air Force. These included prominent avenues such as the National Defence Academy (NDA), Combined Defence Services (CDS) examinations and various direct entry schemes tailored for young aspirants seeking to serve the country in leadership roles.
Throughout the program, the emphasis remained on the core values that define the Indian Armed Forces-honour, discipline, courage, commitment and an unwavering sense of duty towards the nation. Speakers highlighted how these values shape individuals into strong, responsible and confident leaders capable of handling the rigorous challenges of military life.
The officers also shed light on the multifaceted nature of a defence career, explaining that such a profession offers not only adventure and prestige but also immense opportunities for personal and professional growth. They detailed the day-to-day responsibilities, training standards and lifestyle associated with the armed forces, providing a realistic yet inspirational picture of military service. The importance of teamwork, leadership qualities and decision-making under pressure were among the key themes addressed during the session.
Students showed keen interest in understanding the entry processes, eligibility criteria and preparation strategies required to join the forces. The interactive segment saw numerous questions from enthusiastic participants eager to learn more about how they could begin their journey towards becoming officers. The military team responded with guidance on academic requirements, physical fitness benchmarks, and essential personality traits that help candidates excel in the selection process.
One of the remarkable aspects of the program was the motivational tone set by the Cross Swords Gunners. They emphasized that a career in the armed forces is not merely a job but a calling-an opportunity to protect the nation, lead with honour and uphold the principles that safeguard India’s unity and integrity. Students were encouraged to believe in their potential, set clear goals and work consistently towards achieving their aspirations.
As the program concluded, the speakers urged the young attendees to take proactive steps toward shaping their future by exploring the wide array of opportunities within the defence sector. They also assured students that the Cross Swords Gunners remain committed to mentoring and supporting those who wish to pursue this noble path.
The event received an overwhelmingly positive response, leaving many students inspired and determined to consider a life dedicated to service, leadership and national pride.
