The three-day 10th District Handball Championship for Senior Men and Women, and Junior Boys and Girls categories concluded today at the Playfield, Shastri Nagar, Jammu.
The championship was organized by the Players Association Handball Jammu in collaboration with the J&K Handball Association and sponsored by the J&K Sports Council.
Joint Director Information, Deepak Dubey (JKAS), was the chief guest at the valedictory function, while Achyut Dubey, Advocate, Legal Advisor and Standing Counsel for the J&K Handball Association, was the guest of honour. The dignitaries presented trophies, medals, and individual prizes to the winners and runners-up.
In his address, the chief guest lauded the exceptional sporting talent of Jammu and Kashmir, commending the achievements of local athletes at both national and international levels. He congratulated the winners, runners-up, and all participants for displaying exemplary sportsmanship throughout the tournament and appreciated the efforts of the Players Association Handball Jammu for successfully organizing the event.
Earlier, Rajesh Kapoor, Organizing Secretary of the Championship, welcomed the guests, players, officials, spectators, and media personnel. Among those present on the occasion were Rajesh Kapoor, Vice President; Rajesh Chandan, General Secretary; Sanjeev Jamwal, Treasurer; Sulekha Kundal, Joint Secretary of the J&K Handball Association; and other senior members of the association.
A total of 140 players from various schools and handball clubs across Jammu district participated in the tournament, making it a vibrant display of local sporting talent.
In the Senior Men’s final, Sandeep Pal Club defeated Jammu Club by 14-11 goals. The star performer for Sandeep Pal Club was Sahil Padha, who scored 6 goals, while Nikhil added 4 goals to the tally.
In the Senior Women’s final, Sampark Handball Club edged past Sandeep Pal Club in a closely contested match, winning by 12-11 goals. Taniya Mehra emerged as the top scorer for Sampark Handball Club with 5 goals, while Richa Rajput contributed 4 goals to the team’s victory.
The championship concluded with cheers and appreciation from players and spectators alike, marking another successful step in promoting handball and sports culture in Jammu and Kashmir.
