Udhampur, Nov 5
In a continuing effort to serve the people of Jammu & Kashmir and uphold its commitment to the welfare of citizens living in remote regions, the Indian Army organised a free medical camp at Phulungu village in the Dudu Basantgarh area of Udhampur district. The initiative, part of the Army’s ongoing outreach and welfare programmes, sought to provide essential healthcare services to residents who have limited access to medical facilities due to challenging terrain and geographical isolation. The camp was organised under the supervision of the local Army unit, which deployed a dedicated team of Army Medical Officers, nursing assistants, and healthcare workers to deliver quality healthcare to the villagers. The medical team conducted comprehensive health check-ups, provided consultations on various health concerns, and distributed free medicines to those in need. The primary focus of the camp was to raise awareness about hygiene, sanitation, nutrition, and preventive healthcare – critical aspects of maintaining community health in rural and high-altitude areas.
A large number of men, women, and children from Phulungu and neighbouring villages attended the camp. Residents expressed deep gratitude towards the Indian Army for reaching out to them with such compassion and commitment. Many villagers mentioned that access to qualified doctors and medicines is often difficult due to the remoteness of their location and the absence of regular healthcare infrastructure. For them, the Army’s initiative was not only a relief but also a reassurance of the continued support and care extended by the armed forces beyond the call of duty.
The medical team provided general health check-ups, maternal and child health consultations, dental care, blood pressure and diabetes screening, and awareness sessions on seasonal illnesses. Special attention was given to elderly citizens and children, ensuring that their health needs were adequately addressed. Alongside the medical services, Army personnel also interacted with locals to understand their daily challenges and to spread awareness about government health schemes and hygiene practices to prevent common diseases.
The event was conducted in a well-organised and compassionate manner, with Army personnel ensuring that each attendee received proper attention and medical advice. Free medicines were distributed to patients suffering from ailments like cold, cough, skin infections, joint pain, and minor injuries. The Army also highlighted the importance of regular medical check-ups, clean drinking water, balanced diet, and vaccination to ensure a healthier community.
The villagers’ enthusiastic participation and positive feedback reflected the strong bond of trust and respect that the Indian Army continues to build with the civilian population in Jammu & Kashmir. Such humanitarian initiatives not only provide much-needed relief but also strengthen the fabric of civil-military relations in the region.
Through initiatives like the Phulungu medical camp, the Indian Army reaffirms its role as a protector and friend of the people, dedicated to promoting peace, progress, and prosperity in the border areas. By combining compassion with service, the Army continues to stand as a symbol of hope and support for those living in some of India’s most remote and difficult terrains. The successful conduct of the camp at Phulungu, Dudu Basantgarh, once again highlights the Army’s unwavering dedication to the well-being of the local population and its broader mission of nation-building through outreach, empathy, and sustained public engagement.
