PM Modi to attend ASEAN Summit virtually, strengthen ties with Malaysia

In a warm conversation with Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, Prime Minister Narendra Modi today congratulated him on Malaysia’s ASEAN Chairmanship and wished him success for the upcoming summits.
PM Modi also expressed his enthusiasm to join the ASEAN-India Summit virtually, further deepening the ASEAN-India Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
“Had a warm conversation with my dear friend, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim of Malaysia. Congratulated him on Malaysia’s ASEAN Chairmanship and conveyed best wishes for the success of upcoming Summits. Look forward to joining the ASEAN-India Summit virtually, and to further deepening the ASEAN-India Comprehensive Strategic Partnership,” PM Modi said in a post on X.
The conversation underscores the robust bilateral ties between India and Malaysia, with both leaders exploring opportunities to enhance cooperation in trade, investment, technology, education, and security. The upcoming ASEAN Summit, scheduled from October 26 to 28, 2025, in Kuala Lumpur, will provide a critical platform for leaders to discuss regional peace, economic resilience, and inclusive growth.
The ASEAN-India partnership has been growing steadily, with both sides engaging in various areas of cooperation. The virtual summit will enable PM Modi to participate in the discussions and strengthen the partnership, further solidifying India’s relations with Southeast Asia.

The 47th ASEAN Summit will be held at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre, marking the culmination of Malaysia’s 2025 ASEAN Chairmanship under the theme “Inclusivity and Sustainability.”
The summit will also feature the formal handover of the ASEAN Chairmanship to the Philippines, marking the end of a significant year for Malaysia in advancing regional cooperation and shared prosperity.
The ASEAN-India Partnership is centered on deepening cooperation across trade, investment, technology, education, and security. The upcoming summit will focus on advancing regional peace, economic resilience, and inclusive growth.
