Bihar’s Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary on Thursday claimed RJD chief Lalu Yadav forced his allies to declare his son Tejashwi Yadav as the chief ministerial candidate of the opposition bloc for the upcoming assembly elections.
“The people of Bihar gave RJD 15 years to govern, but in return, they received loot, murder, and corruption. Today, the corrupt, the son of a convicted criminal, dreams of becoming the Chief Minister of Bihar. The INDIA Alliance has decided to make the son of a thief, a registered criminal, the chief minister. This is a day that shames both democracy and Bihar,” the minister said.
Commenting on Tejashwi Yadav’s promises, Choudhary said, “He claims he will provide government jobs to 2.7 crore people. Currently, there are about 22 lakh government employees, for whom the government spends Rs 85,000 crore. If 2.7 crore people are given government jobs, it would cost Rs 12 lakh crore, while Bihar’s total budget is only Rs 3.17 lakh crore.”
He said that Tejashwi’s promises are impractical and meant to mislead the public. Referring to Tejashwi’s pledge to give a Rs 30,000 monthly salary to Jeevika Didis, he said, “There are 1.36 crore Jeevika Didis. Now imagine what will happen if that promise is implemented.”
He added that Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has empowered women through the Jeevika Didi Yojana, which has created a market worth Rs 56,000 crore in just one year. Senior BJP leader and former Union minister Ravi Shankar Prasad also urged the people of Bihar to be cautious of Tejashwi Yadav, saying, “His background is rooted in corruption. None of his work happens without corruption.” He also questioned Tejashwi’s promise of providing government jobs to every family, as well as his assurance of regularising contractual workers.
The BJP leader termed these announcements deceptive and hollow rhetoric.
He said, “Even the RJD knows it is not coming to power, and that’s why they are making such announcements.” He also raised questions about the Congress party.
He stated, “Our job is to expose Tejashwi Yadav’s political legacy. The NDA government will continue to deliver on its work.”
