In a progressive stride toward embracing renewable energy and environmental sustainability, the Cantonment Board Jammu has inaugurated a 75 kW Solar Power Plant at its office complex. The initiative marks a significant step in the Board’s commitment to adopting clean energy solutions and aligning with the national vision of reducing carbon emissions and achieving energy self-sufficiency.
The inauguration ceremony was held in the presence of the President of the Cantonment Board, Shri Amitkumar Mane, IDES, CEO Cantonment Board Jammu, and other senior officials and dignitaries. The event underscored the Board’s proactive approach in integrating sustainable technologies into its infrastructure, setting an example for other civic and defence administrative bodies across the region.
The newly installed solar power plant, with a capacity of 75 kilowatts, is designed to meet a substantial portion of the Board’s electricity requirements. By harnessing solar energy, the system will significantly reduce dependence on conventional grid power and fossil fuels. The project is projected to result in annual savings of approximately ?40 lakh in electricity expenditure-funds that can be redirected towards community welfare, infrastructure upgrades, and public service enhancement.
Beyond the financial benefits, the initiative represents a strong environmental commitment. The solar installation is expected to drastically cut carbon emissions, contributing to cleaner air and a healthier environment for the residents of the Cantonment area. This aligns closely with the Prime Minister’s “PM Surya Griha Yojana”, which encourages the widespread adoption of solar power in residential and institutional establishments, and supports India’s national renewable energy and sustainability goals under the Paris Climate Agreement.
Speaking at the event, the President of the Cantonment Board highlighted that the adoption of green energy solutions reflects the organisation’s dedication to sustainable governance and responsible resource management. He noted that such projects not only reduce operational costs but also raise environmental awareness among citizens and employees, fostering a culture of sustainability within the community.
The successful implementation of the 75 kW Solar Power Plant demonstrates how local government bodies can effectively integrate renewable energy into their day-to-day operations.
It stands as a model for other institutions seeking to transition toward greener, cleaner, and more resilient energy systems.
Through this initiative, the Cantonment Board Jammu has reaffirmed its commitment to environmental stewardship, fiscal responsibility, and sustainable urban development, paving the way for a brighter and greener future.
