The political stage in Bihar has just gotten more exciting. With the assembly elections around the corner, the Jan Suraaj Party made a surprise announcement on Tuesday:
37-year-old Chanchal Singh will be their candidate from the Raghopur constituency. For weeks, political circles speculated whether party chief Prashant Kishor himself would contest from Raghopur. But in a strategic twist, PK decided to field a new face instead.
On October 14, Jan Suraaj Party national president Uday Singh handed over the party symbol to Chanchal Singh, officially confirming him as the candidate to take on Raghopur’s big name, Tejashwi Yadav.
Who is Chanchal Singh?
Chanchal Kumar Singh has a background in organizational politics. He previously served as the state general secretary of JD(U)’s business cell. Professionally he is a businessman active in hotels and real estate, with projects not only in Hajipur and Vidyupur but also in Delhi.

The battle in Raghopur is shaping up to be one of the most interesting in Bihar. On one side is Tejashwi Yadav with experience, strong public support, and a political legacy.
On the other is Jan Suraaj’s fresh candidate Chanchal Singh, representing the party’s hopes of building a lasting presence in the area.
Leader of the Opposition Tejashwi Yadav has filed his nomination from Raghopur on October 15 in presence of his parents Lalu Prasad Yadav and Rabri Devi, former chief ministers of Bihar. This will be his third consecutive term contesting from the constituency. He first became MLA and Deputy Chief Minister in 2015 and successfully defended his seat in 2020.
