The Indian Army continues to play a significant role not only in safeguarding the nation’s borders but also in contributing to social development and empowerment initiatives across the country. In line with this commitment, the Army organized a special awareness programme on women empowerment and self-defence at Government Middle School, Bomal, in the Akhnoor region on October 12, 2025. The initiative, held under the theme “Self-Defence for Girl Child,” was designed to educate young girls on how to protect themselves in challenging or unsafe situations and to instill in them a sense of confidence and independence.
The awareness session served as an important platform for participants to learn about the significance of self-defence as a vital life skill. During the training, Army instructors demonstrated and explained several fundamental self-defence techniques such as the Palm Strike, Elbow Strike, Knee Strike, and Kick to Shins. These techniques were taught in an easy-to-understand and practical manner, enabling the participants to respond effectively to real-life threats. Alongside physical moves, the trainers emphasized the importance of situational awareness-recognizing danger signs early, maintaining alertness in public places, and making quick decisions to avoid or escape potential threats.
The programme was attended by forty-two girl students and nine teachers from the school, all of whom participated with enthusiasm and interest. The students engaged actively in the demonstrations and practice sessions, learning not only how to defend themselves physically but also how to stay mentally strong and composed in stressful situations. Teachers accompanying the students also expressed appreciation for the Army’s initiative, noting that such programmes help shape responsible and confident young citizens who are aware of their rights and personal safety.
Through this initiative, the Indian Army reaffirmed its dedication to the cause of women empowerment and community engagement. The event underscored that empowerment is not limited to education or employment opportunities alone, but also includes ensuring that women and girls feel safe, secure, and capable of protecting themselves. By reaching out to young students at the grassroots level, the Army sought to spread awareness that self-defence is an essential form of empowerment that strengthens both the body and the mind.
The successful organization of the programme at Bomal reflects the Army’s broader vision of contributing positively to social causes and building a society where women can live with dignity, confidence, and security. The event concluded with a message encouraging all participants to share their learning with peers and family members, ensuring that the spirit of self-reliance and empowerment continues to spread within the community.
