The Indian Army continues to play a vital role in promoting social awareness and community development across the nation, extending its efforts beyond the realm of defence and security. On the occasion of the International Day of the Girl Child, the Indian Army organised a special awareness programme and lecture at Pine Wood School, Sabra, in Poonch District on October 12, 2025. The event was aimed at promoting gender equality, empowering young girls, and encouraging the community to recognize and support the rights and aspirations of the girl child.
The celebration served as an important platform to highlight the challenges faced by girls in society and the need to work collectively toward creating an inclusive and equitable environment for them. During the lecture, Army officials and educators spoke about key issues such as gender equality, the importance of education for girls, and the urgent need to prevent gender-based discrimination and violence. The speakers emphasized that empowering girls through education and equal opportunities is essential not only for their personal growth but also for the overall progress of the nation.
As part of the event, four girl students from the school delivered thoughtful and inspiring talks on the theme of the day. They shared their insights on how education and societal support can help bridge gender gaps and create a future where girls can pursue their dreams without fear or limitation. Their speeches reflected confidence, awareness, and a deep understanding of the importance of equality and empowerment.
The programme also featured cultural performances by students, including songs, dances, and a thematic act titled Operation Sindoor, which depicted the pivotal role of women in India’s armed forces and national development. The performance was widely appreciated for its creativity and powerful message about women’s strength, courage, and contribution to society. Following the cultural presentations, the Army personnel distributed stationery items among the students to encourage their academic pursuits. The event concluded with the distribution of sweets and refreshments, fostering a cheerful and inclusive atmosphere where students, teachers, and Army personnel interacted freely.
The celebration at Pine Wood School demonstrated the Indian Army’s continuous commitment to gender equality and community upliftment. By observing the International Day of the Girl Child, the Army once again reinforced its message that empowering girls and ensuring their equal participation in every sphere of life is fundamental to building a stronger, more progressive nation.
