KATHUA, Oct 12
In a major development initiative, DDC Chairman Kathua, Col Mahan Singh (Retd), today inaugurated the construction work of a 1.0 km long road to SC Mohalla Adan under the District Capex Plan. The project will be executed by the PWD (R&B) Division Basohli.
The long-pending demand of villagers for a road connecting Marta to Bajod on the Mahanpur–Basohli road is finally becoming a reality. The new road will benefit more than 50 families, mostly belonging to the Scheduled Caste community, and interlink several localities including Marta, Adan, Nagrota, Bajod, Jait, and Kharmait.
The inauguration ceremony was marked by enthusiasm and joy as Col Mahan Singh cut the ribbon amid slogans praising Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Dr. Jitendra Singh (MoS PMO), and local leaders.
The villagers expressed their heartfelt gratitude, celebrating the occasion by distributing sweets and raising slogans of appreciation.
Among those present on the occasion were Karam Chand (Ex-ZEO), Capt. Nake Ram, Karam Chand (Retired Headmaster), Munshi Ram, and several local residents.
A touching moment came when 99-year-old village elder Dhani Ram became emotional witnessing his decades-old dream turning into reality. He revealed that he had been demanding the construction of this road for nearly 80 years.
Speaking on the occasion, Col Mahan Singh expressed his gratitude to Prime Minister Modi and the UT administration for their commitment towards inclusive development.
He said, “The Modi Government is devoted to the welfare and upliftment of people living in remote and far-flung areas. Development is reaching every corner of the Union Territory under the current leadership.”
Highlighting the ongoing development push, he informed that over a dozen new roads have been sanctioned in the Basohli sub-district during the current financial year.
He further added that repair and restoration work of roads damaged in recent rains is also being undertaken to strengthen rural connectivity.
