Municipal Council Poonch today organized a cleanliness themed “Ek Ghanta, Ek Sath” Shramdaan as part of the ongoing Sewa Parv. The initiative, led by EO Municipal Council Khalil A. Banday, focused on cleaning the historic Qila area, particularly the library premises, to promote the message of collective responsibility towards cleanliness.
The drive witnessed enthusiastic participation from sanitation workers, staff of the Municipal Council, members of civil society, representatives of the Bar Association and officials from the Departments of Social Welfare and Education. Together, they dedicated an hour of voluntary service, demonstrating the power of community effort in creating a cleaner and healthier environment.
The EO emphasized that cleanliness is not only a civic duty but also a shared commitment to public health, dignity and the preservation of heritage spaces. He further highlighted that the initiatives like these echo the vision of a Swachh Bharat, reinforcing the belief that sustainable change begins with individual and collective action.
Meanwhile, the Municipal Council organised the Angikaar programme under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana–Urban (PMAY-U), generating awareness among the general public about the Housing scheme and other welfare initiatives. Different departments installed stalls to inform and educate people about their respective schemes and services.
MLA Haveli, Ajaz Ahmed Jan graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. Among the other distinguished attendees were Former Chairmen, MC Poonch, Sunil Sharma and Advocate Rajinder Singh Kaka, Former Vice Chairman Adv Humera Saleem and several former councillors who extended their support to the programme.
A highlight of the event was the symbolic handover of keys to two beneficiaries, whose houses under PMAY-U were complete, marking their Greh Pravesh and fulfilling the dream of owning a pucca house. The programme was attended by PMAY-U beneficiaries, street vendors and sanitation workers, reflecting the inclusive approach of the initiative.
