Rajouri, Sept 14
Demonstrating its unwavering dedication to the welfare of Ex-Servicemen (ESM) and their families, the Indian Army organized a special outreach programme at Budhal in Rajouri district to disseminate information about the latest policies and welfare measures announced by the Integrated Headquarters, Ministry of Defence (IHQ MoD). The initiative focused on ensuring that veterans and widows living in remote and far-flung areas remain aware of current entitlements, pensionary benefits, and other welfare schemes designed for their well-being.
The programme saw the distribution of carefully prepared pamphlets that provided comprehensive information on recently updated government initiatives. These included details about pension-related reforms, educational grants, medical facilities under the Ex-Servicemen Contributory Health Scheme (ECHS), financial assistance programs, and other support measures available to veterans and their dependents. The effort was particularly significant for a region like Budhal, where communication gaps and geographical isolation can often make it difficult for retired servicemen and widows to stay updated on policy changes that directly affect them.
A large number of Ex-Servicemen, Veer Naris, widows, and their families participated in the event, turning it into a lively and interactive session. Army officials took the time to personally explain the contents of the pamphlets, clarifying doubts and helping attendees understand the procedures for availing the various benefits. The participants expressed keen interest and actively engaged in discussions, ensuring that they could make the most of the information being shared.
The distribution programme was not just about handing over pamphlets but was part of a broader attempt to build a direct bridge between the Army, the veteran community, and their families. Many participants acknowledged that such initiatives make them feel connected to the organization even after years of retirement. The gesture reaffirmed their faith that their service and sacrifices continue to be honored and that their welfare remains a priority for the nation and the Army.
Several veterans and widows expressed their gratitude to the Army for its proactive efforts. They shared that such outreach efforts provide reassurance and a sense of belonging, as well as practical assistance in understanding and claiming the benefits due to them.
For many, this initiative removed the confusion surrounding documentation and procedures, which often becomes a challenge in remote areas with limited access to administrative support.
The Indian Army reiterated its commitment to continuing such programmes across other remote locations of Rajouri and beyond, ensuring that no veteran or widow is left uninformed or unsupported. This event served as yet another example of the Army’s sustained efforts to empower the veteran community, strengthen their sense of dignity, and keep them closely integrated with the larger national framework. By carrying welfare information right to their doorstep, the Army is not only fulfilling its responsibility towards those who once served under its banner but also reinforcing the timeless bond of trust and respect that exists between the armed forces and their extended family of veterans.
