In celebration of World Physiotherapy Day 2025, observed globally on September 8, The Composite Regional Centre (CRC), Jammu (Samba)-PDUNIPPD, New Delhi under DEPWD, Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment (MOSJE), Govt. of India, hosted a community-focused event aimed at empowering Anganwadi Workers and Divyangjans through education, demonstration, and inclusive support strategies.
The theme for this year’s observance, “The Role of Physiotherapy and Physical Activity in Healthy Ageing – with a Focus on Preventing Frailty and Falls”, was brought to life through a dynamic and interactive session led by Dr. Devedika Padha, Lecturer, Physiotherapy. The lecture highlighted the vital role of physiotherapy in promoting healthy ageing, enhancing mobility, and preventing frailty and falls, especially among vulnerable populations.
“Staying active-even later in life-promotes independence. It’s never too late to start, and physiotherapy can guide safe, effective practice,” emphasized Dr. Devedika during her address.She also conducted live demonstrations of simple, safe, home-based physiotherapy routines that participants can easily integrate into their daily lives. These included:
” Exercises to enhance muscle strength, balance, and flexibility – key to fall and frailty prevention.
” Adaptable cardiovascular and respiratory activities, such as gentle aerobic movements and breathing exercises.
” Yoga and mindful movement techniques to support mental well-being, stress reduction, and positive ageing.
The programme aimed to:
” Equip Anganwadi Workers-key grassroots health facilitators-with practical physiotherapy tools to support their own well-being and that of the communities they serve.
” Provide inclusive, accessible physiotherapy strategies for Divyangjans, tailored to diverse mobility and sensory needs, fostering independence and confidence.
” Raise awareness about preventive physiotherapy, promoting regular physical activity as a cornerstone of physical and psychological resilience in older age.
A total of 62 beneficiaries actively participated in the event, gaining hands-on experience and valuable knowledge. The initiative was effectively coordinated by Vime Kumari (AWW) and Supervisor Kanta Devi.
The whole programme done under the able guidance of the Director, CRC Jammu. The event marks an important step in community health promotion, aligning with global efforts to ensure that community stay active, engaged, and independent, regardless of physical ability.
