Rajouri, Aug 25
In a unique initiative to strengthen its connect with the civilian population, the Indian Army organized a Chai Pe Charcha (tea-time discussion) with village representatives and locals at Solki in Rajouri district. The informal interaction, attended by Sarpanchs, Panchs, Lambardars, ex-servicemen and other villagers, aimed at creating a platform where pressing issues faced by the community could be highlighted and addressed in cooperation with the Army. The meeting witnessed enthusiastic participation from a total of 19 representatives, including 2 Lambardars, 3 Sarpanchs, 8 Panchs and 5 ex-servicemen, besides local residents. Over cups of tea, the attendees engaged in candid and meaningful discussions covering a wide range of topics directly linked to the welfare and development of the region.
During the interaction, participants brought forward critical issues being faced by the villagers. Among the top concerns highlighted were the need for better infrastructure, improvement in healthcare facilities, quality education, employment opportunities and sustainable development initiatives. Mental health and hygiene, often overlooked in rural communities, also figured as an important aspect of discussion.
The Army representatives encouraged the locals to share their ideas and challenges openly, assuring them that their feedback would be taken into consideration for future community welfare activities. The discussions reflected a strong desire among villagers to collaborate with the Army and local governance institutions for the holistic development of the region.
Strengthening Civil-Military Bonds
The Chai Pe Charcha is part of the Army’s continuous efforts to foster goodwill, mutual trust and cooperation with the local population. By engaging directly with elected representatives like Sarpanchs and Panchs as well as ex-servicemen, the Army sought to build bridges between the security forces and the community they protect.
Ex-servicemen in particular expressed their gratitude to the Army for maintaining strong ties even after their retirement. They emphasized the importance of such forums in channelizing youth energy positively, discouraging anti-social activities and motivating the younger generation to contribute towards the nation’s progress.
Commitment to Development and Security
The discussions also underlined the dual focus of development and security in the border district of Rajouri. Villagers acknowledged the Army’s role not only in safeguarding the region but also in supporting socio-economic upliftment. Many participants appreciated ongoing initiatives of the Army such as organizing medical camps, promoting education through Army Goodwill Schools, and providing skill development opportunities to rural youth.
The event concluded with villagers expressing their gratitude to the Indian Army for its constant encouragement and support.
They noted that such interactions help them feel heard, valued and connected to the national mainstream. The Army officers reiterated their commitment to continue such dialogues in the future, assuring that community-driven development would remain a priority alongside maintaining peace and security in the region.
By creating a forum where tea served as a medium of trust and dialogue, the Indian Army once again demonstrated that nation-building goes hand-in-hand with community engagement. The Chai Pe Charcha at Solki not only addressed local challenges but also strengthened the spirit of partnership between soldiers and citizens – a bond crucial for the prosperity and harmony of Rajouri.
