Residents of Jammu city organized a candlelight march at Dogra Chowk to pay tribute to those who lost their lives in the recent natural disaster at Chashoti village in Kishtwar district. Holding candles in their hands, a large number of people gathered to mourn the victims. The participants also observed a two-minute silence, praying for the departed souls.
The tribute was organized by local social activist Raj Kumar Gupta (Bittu). Speaking to reporters, he said that the tragedy in Chashoti has shaken the entire Jammu and Kashmir.
The candle march was a gesture to express solidarity with the bereaved families and to show that the people of Jammu stand with them in this moment of grief.
Gupta highlighted that the Kishtwar district administration, the Jammu and Kashmir government, and several volunteer groups-particularly the Shri Shakti Sevak Sanstha-are actively engaged in rescue and relief operations. Security personnel and rescue teams are working tirelessly to locate and evacuate those still trapped under the debris.
Expressing hope, he said that with the blessings of Machel Mata, positive news would emerge soon and the missing persons would be reunited with their families. Gupta further urged the Jammu and Kashmir government to provide adequate compensation to the families of the deceased and to announce a rehabilitation package for the displaced and affected residents of Chashoti village.
