A delegation of E-Bus drivers of Jammu Smart City Limited today called on the leadership of the National Foundation for Journalism & Media (NFJM) at Jammu to highlight their grievances.
The delegation, led by Harvinder Singh, Sunny, and Mohd. Abbas, was received by Dr. Tahir Rufayee, National Chairman NFJM, and Mr. Tejwant Singh Sawhney, State Vice President (J&K) NFJM.
The drivers were given a patient hearing and discussed in detail the challenges they are currently facing in the course of their duties.
The drivers informed that despite serving for months, they have not been issued appointment orders or salary slips, leading to uncertainty and lack of job security.
They further alleged that their agreed duty schedule of 100 km / 8 hours daily has been arbitrarily raised to 300 km / 15 hours daily, without any revision of salary or facilities.
The delegation also alleged instances of threats, transfers, salary deductions for accidental damages, and demands for money in lieu of continuation of service. Their monthly salary of ?14,200 was described as inadequate, with a demand for immediate revision and increment.
Dr. Rufayee assured the delegation that NFJM will take up the matter with the concerned authorities. Accordingly, NFJM has written to Sh. Devyansh Yadav (IAS), CEO Jammu Smart City, urging urgent intervention. Copies of the representation have also been forwarded to the Hon’ble Chief Minister of J&K and Sh. Nitin Gadkari, Hon’ble Union Minister for Road Transport & Highways for information and necessary action.
Speaking after the meeting, Dr. Rufayee said: “Drivers are the backbone of any transport system, and their rights, safety, and dignity must be safeguarded. NFJM stands with them and will ensure that their voices are heard at the highest levels.” “Drivers are the backbone of any transport system, and their rights, safety, and dignity must be safeguarded.
