NEW DELHI, Aug 13
External Affairs Minister (EAM) S Jaishankar on Wednesday underlined that synergy between government and industry will be critical to unlocking the next phase of India–Singapore relations.
Speaking after attending the third India–Singapore Ministerial Roundtable (ISMR) in New Delhi, Jaishankar thanked Singaporean ministers for their commitment to strengthening the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership (CSP) between the two nations.
The ISMR discussions focused on six pillars of cooperation: digitalisation, skill development, sustainability, healthcare, connectivity, and advanced manufacturing.
The Indian delegation included Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal, and Electronics & IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw.
The Singaporean side was led by Deputy Prime Minister Gan Kim Yong, along with ministers K Shanmugam, Vivian Balakrishnan, Josephine Teo, Tan See Leng, and Jeffrey Siow.
Jaishankar noted in a post on X that the ISMR also engaged with the India–Singapore Business Roundtable (ISBR) delegation, stressing that “synergy between Government and Industry is key to unlocking the next phase of India–Singapore ties.”
The Ministry of External Affairs welcomed the visiting Singaporean ministers on Tuesday, calling the ISMR a “unique mechanism” that continues to bolster the bilateral CSP.
India–Singapore relations were elevated to Comprehensive Strategic Partnership during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Singapore in September 2024. With shared history, mutual trust, and cooperation across multiple sectors, ties have deepened in recent years.
The ISMR, envisioned by PM Modi, held its first meeting in New Delhi in September 2022, its second in Singapore in August 2024, and the third this week in New Delhi.
